Flexible Entry Criteria
At Greater Birmingham United College (GBU College), we are committed to widening participation and creating opportunities for learners from diverse educational, professional, and personal backgrounds. We welcome applications from school leavers, mature students, individuals returning to education, and those with relevant professional or vocational experience.
Our admissions process is designed to recognise potential, ambition, and commitment to higher education.
Applicants will normally be expected to hold qualifications equivalent to:
- A minimum of 48 UCAS tariff points from recognised Level 3 qualifications (such as A Levels, BTEC, Access to Higher Education Diploma, T Levels, or equivalent qualifications); or
- Relevant international qualifications deemed equivalent to UK Level 3 qualifications.
GBU College welcomes applications from students who may not meet traditional entry requirements but can demonstrate their ability to succeed in higher education through:
- Relevant work experience;
- Professional or vocational qualifications;
- Prior experiential learning;
- Successful completion of an interview and/or admissions assessment.
Applications from mature learners (aged 21 and over) and applicants from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged.

GBU College offers multiple entry points during the academic year, including September, January, and May intakes.
Applications are accepted throughout the year; however, applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible.
Recommended application deadlines are:
- September intake: 31 July
- January intake: 30 November
- May intake: 31 March
Applications received after these dates may still be considered, subject to programme availability.

- Proof of English language proficiency, where English is not the applicant’s first language;
